Bruges-Belgium is just stunning and brings you back to the past with its' red brick wall cottages, cobblestone lanes, dreamy canals and this is why it is one of Europes' most picture-perfect historic cities. We did not manage to visit all of the sites in Bruges due to time constraint and the fact that there's more than 10 places to visit here (according to their local map!). Instead we took in the sights, buildings, explored the canals and had how Belgian fries to warm us up.

Here is a list of places which we feel that you shouldn't miss out on, based on the local map and guide in Bruges:

  • Beginjhof - It is close to the Minnewater which is also known as the Lake of Love. The area is one of Bruges quaint spots and requires a lot of calmness and quiet. The convent has white painted small houses with plane trees. (Opens 6:30am-6:30pm).
  • Museum St Janshospitaal - A restored hospital-chapel with displays of art by 15th-century artist Hans Memling. The former hospital also has nightmarish historical medical implements in its building. (Opens 9:30am-5:00pm / Euro 8 for adults).
  • Groeningemuseum - Art lovers would appreciate Bruge's most popular art gallery with collections from Flemish Primitive works by Magritte and Delvaux. (Opens 9:30am-5:00pm / Euro 8 for adults).
  • Markt - The old market square lined with pavement cafes and neo-Gothic buildings. The 13th-century Belfort, a church with 366 steps up the tower gives you a view of the lovely Bruges. (Opens 9:30am-5:00pm / Euro 8 for adults).
  • Rozenhoedkaai - The most photographed spot in Bruges with a view of the Bruges Belfry in a distance.
  • Burg - Burg Square with the Stadhuis and breathtaking Gotishe Zaal. (Opens 9:30-5pm / Euro 4 for adults). Also must visit is the Basilica of the Holy Blood next door.
  • Het voormalige hanzekwartier - The former Hanseatic quarter where most foreign merchant houses & consulates were established.
  • Verken de aderen van de stad op het water - Explore the veins of the city on the water
  • Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk - Church of Our Lady which houses Michaelangelos' sculpture "Madonna with Child". (Opens 9:30am-4:pm / Euro 2.50 for adults).
  • Godshuizen - Almshouses are small, white or yellow, sometimes in a row but often grouped around a courtyard, established by the wealthier people for the poor.
  • Concertgebouw - Concert Hall with an impressive seating of 1,295 audience serving music, musical theatre and dance of international quality.
