Staycation in the city with ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur

What's a girl to do when she needs a quiet place to get lots of writing done?

I had planned on having a staycation within the city centre but found most of the hotels to be out of my price range. It can be daunting to search for hotels that ticks everything from your list like below:

  • Location
  • Affordable
  • Good reputation

But it is not impossible. I stayed at a hotel which had everything mentioned (and more). It's called ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur and it was one of the best (surprising) stays I've had in Kuala Lumpur. In this post, I share with you more about my stay and why this hotel has the best location in town.

Getting to ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur has a rep for traffic jams which means you'll need to figure out the best times to go or to avoid when you start the car. ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur is located right in the middle of the Bukit Bintang, which is the shopping district area. The traffic can get a little backlogged during peak hours but aside from that, I managed to make my way to ANSA from Wangsa Maju in under 30 minutes (on a good day).

If you're traveling from other parts of the city or country, you'll be able to arrive in ANSA in no time with these options:

  • Grab (earn FREE Rides when you use this referral code GRAB FIENUTS48 for your first Grab app download)
  • Local taxis
  • Bukit Bintang Monorail and MRT
  • Hop On-Hop Off and Go KL bus

You can also drive your way to ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur and park in their basement. The parking is a bit tight but it's secured from rain, shine, and guarded. However, once I parked my car, I did not feel like taking it out any time within my stay here in the city. Therefore I am glad that other transportation modes were available around the hotel.

Staying in the spacious Executive Room

ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur has 4 types of rooms for the guests; namely Superior, Delux, Executive and Suites. I stayed in the ANSA Executive Room on Level 11 for the night, with a view of the city. The top floors give a much better view of the streets below, the towers and peacefulness. I used to stay at a lower level of a Ho Chi Minh hotel where the noises from the clubs shook the walls. There are no clubs or pubs within the building of ANSA so the noises here are bearable.

Now the room I'm staying in comes with a separate shower and toilet, a nice wardrobe with an ironing set, mini fridge, a seating area, dressing table, king-sized bed, and television. What I like most about this set-up is that it is spacious, not cluttered and has enough lights that make the room feel rather warm, cozy even.

Perks to be enjoyed in ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Although ANSA Hotel does not have its own restaurant (yes there is no complimentary breakfast here), they do have F&B tenants in the lobby and at the ANSA Walk area. These include Starbucks, Greyhound cafe, Tealive, Hogan Bakery, Tokyo Secret, Koi, and 7-Eleven. With malls and restaurants around the area, guests will have so many choices for the day.

I visited the Museum of Illusions Kuala Lumpur recently this year and it was such an interesting experience, mind-boggling even. The best thing about the museum is that it is located inside the ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur building and is open to the public.

Inside the rooms are a Starbucks menu for direct delivery and a mobile phone to be used while roaming the city. This phone is already equipped with data allowing you to download guides, additional maps, and language apps that you can use daily. Once you check out, your data from the phones will be deleted and reset for the next person. This is a major convenience for first-time travelers who are getting to know the city. Just remember though, if you lose the phone, you have to pay for it.

The Executive Room is suitable for family and business stay in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Perks that are provided in guests hotel room.

Robes, an ironing and laundry service are also provided.

Well-known malls within walking distance

As mentioned earlier, the location of ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur is so good that you can walk to all the major shopping malls with ease. Imagine having Farenheit and Lot 10 as next-door neighbours with the Table on the 4th floor as well as Lot 10 Hutong on the lower ground. Less than 5 minutes away is Pavilion, a shopping mall with all the high-end international brands and restaurants. Opposite of Lot 10 is Sungai Wang and Bukit Bintang Plaza for budget-friendly shoppers.

I even spent time with a friend who showed me the rooftop area of Lot 10, overlooking the Bukit Bintang area below. On any good day, the sunset from this rooftop would look amazing. Visitors can take the elevator up to the 8th floor for a view. There's also a cafe for coffee and tea while waiting for the sunset.

The monorail and MRT station connect the city centre to places of interest such as Pasar Seni (Central Market), Jln Imbi (Berjaya Times Square), Muzium Negara (National Museum), and Merdeka (Merdeka Square, Sultan Abdul Samad building). It also connects to the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line in case you feel like wandering the other side of town (Kajang) for good ol' beef satay.

Starhill and Farenheit mall is just a few walking distance from Ansa Hotel KL.

Take in this view of Jalan Bukit Bintang from Lot 10's rooftop.

Drop by Eden cafe for a cup of coffee and enjoy the KL view.

Enjoy Japanese food at the top floor in Lot 10 mall.

Did I get some quiet time to write?

Yes, indeed I did. The room had a calm effect and I was able to complete some writing during my stay there. Although the malls were a big distraction, I focused on and went in to grab a bite, then headed back to the room. In the evening, I'd have a peek out the window looking at the crowded pedestrian crossing below.

If you plan on visiting Kuala Lumpur for your holiday, I would suggest staying in this friendly hotel to experience the best things the city has to offer.

* This stay was made possible by ANSA Hotel Kuala Lumpur who graciously hosted me for the week. All opinions are based on my own personal experiences.
